FAQs

Do I need to have public speaking experience?

We ask that you have some experience of public speaking / presenting, as the course is aimed at developing how to share your lived experience safely and confidently, rather than being an introduction to presentation skills.

Do you assess my written skills in Reflective Workbook?

We are interested to know what you have learned and how you will apply your new skills and knowledge.  We are not assessing your literacy skills, though there is written work.   Please contact us if you require reasonable adjustments for the assessment.

I do not have personal ‘lived experience’, but I was close to someone who did. Can I still apply?

If you an ‘affected other’, yes you can as being close to someone who experienced something traumatic is your lived experience, just from a different perspective.

Is this a recovery pathway?

Unfortunately it is not.  The focus is on how to share your lived experience safely and confidently. We therefore request that you are far enough along your recovery journey that you feel safe sharing your story. The course can be triggering and overwhelming for some.  We can discuss any concerns with you.  We deliver the course at different times in the year, so we may agree it would be in your best interest to join us at a later date.

Do you provide discounts?

The full cost is £350.  AAL is not grant-funded unfortunately. However, we do provide a 10% discount for delegates who are on means-tested benefits.

How many people are enrolled onto the course?

4 – 8 per cohort. This allows for enriching discussions and interactions for all.

I cannot attend this date, will you be running the course again?

Yes, we run the course throughout the year.  Please contact us and we will add you to the waiting list when future dates are released.

My employer is interested in the course. Do you deliver in-house?

If you have more than four delegates, yes we can deliver in-house for you.

We also work with organisations to become delivery partners for the Lived Experience Speaker and Facilitator programme, so that you can roll it out to your volunteers, employees and clients.
